APRIL 2009
April 15 - All House Projects, All the Time
So it's been a month or so since I've been unemployed.
Life has settled, a plan has been put forth and a
direction set for the next 2-3 months.
Before my layoff, Virginia and I have been anxious to
get us moved in together at my place, but it had been
slow going since any progress on the house was only
being made on the weekends.
Well, my new situation has revealed another silver
lining, in that progress is moving much faster.
Yeah, I'm somewhat nervous financing the ongoing
construction, but soon enough we'll have our expenses
cut in half as we join together under one roof.
So our plan is to have Virginia begin to move in during
the month of August. There is much to do, yet I'm
knocking items off the master list quickly.
In the last 15 days, there has been progress on all
fronts:
- office space is fully primed with two coats -
new top coat colors are being decided upon
- office/laundry room wood door has been striped
of paint, hardware buffed and refitted
- laundry cabinets have been installed
- laundry floor has been installed
- laundry utility sink and backsplash have been
re-installed (was removed for new flooring)
- laundry lighting has been installed
- washer and dryer have been re-installed
- secondary electric circuit has been brought
online - a bunch of new outlets and light switches
are now working
Cabinets by IKEA - the most inexpensive ones I could
find that were the right size.
Paint is left over from another project years gone
by.
Floor is from Lowes. Hardwood? Not a chance.
Cheep Chinese linoleum flooring comes to the rescue for
98 cents/foot.
The office is ready for a few top coats.
And a final photo as a reminder how far I've come from
the sub-floor and framing stage.
