September 28th 2006 - Driving Miss Lisa

I got the call out of the blue and before long was headed north on interstate 5 from Santa Ana to Sacramento driving my friend Lisa home from her latest radiation treatment to treat her brain of several tumors.  She was in dire need of the ride - so I made few personal arrangements to help her out.

Amazingly, only a day or so after such a nasty procedure, she was able to keep our conversation lively for most of the 6 1/2 hour drive.  It's really inspiring to see someone so challenged by breast cancer keep on fighting.  So many of us are so proud of her!

We arrived in West Sacramento on Friday eve and later that night, Laura and I returned the rental car.

As I flew back to Burbank the next afternoon, I tried to hold back a feeling of sadness while thinking about my friend.  The unfairness and arcane treatments that she and so many others must go through is maddening and frustrating.

Keep Fighting Lisa!!!

October 1st 2006 - Three Cats for Three Weeks

When Dave and Beth took to the East Coast,  I took in their two (indoor) cats Puszi (the little gray one - pronounced "Pussy") and Squeaky (the not so little brown one) while they were away.
Plus my little (indoor) brown one (Tappancs - pronounced 'TopPunch' aka Topper) makes three.  Three sets of paws in my tiny house - what could go wrong?

Actually, things where just fine - for the first week.  But when little Puszi escaped, things got a little  - ah - shall I say -  interesting.

Here are the highlights:

Puszi was missing for two days and two nights. You go girl!

Her ears and eyes got infected with a flea infestation while on her "excellent adventure". Wahoo!

The fleas started to show up on the other cats, and around the house.  Doh!

Virginia and I gave them each a bath to wash out the dead fleas after a visit to the veterinarian. Yum!

The house and cats are now flea - fee.  The two kitties have been returned to Dave and Beth - happy to be home I'm sure.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing them again!
