July 21st 2006 - OK, Enough of the Heat Already!

Holy crap, it's been a hot summer. Hot Hot HOt!

It's been hitting triple digits more days than I can remember.

As I listen to the hum of my A/C unit, I wince when I inspect my indoor/outdoor thermometer: 106.7 outside, 82.9 inside.  106.7???? That's almost 107 degrees!

Oh, and don't let that low 17% humidity reading fool you.  If you dare use the old "Yeah, but it's a dry heat...." line,  I invite you to stand in my yard in the direct sun for a few minutes.

As well, my front lawn is beyond brown. It's turned to some strange color of orange and looks like it could self combust at any moment.  The crunch under foot (as I quickly step out to grab my hot mail - not the Microsoft kind - but the tin street side mailbox kind) sounds like I've stepped on light bulb shards in the kitchen.

But at least Los Angeles isn't the only place suffering.

I feel so much better knowing that my friends and family across the nation are cooking with gas right along with me.

Check out this record high in South Dakota...

July 18th 2006 - Lisa Catches a Break

After trying many torturous treatments that had no effect on her terminal case of breast cancer, my friend Lisa finally got some good news from her doctor.  Visit her site for details.

July 4th Weekend 2006 - A New Door Opens in My Life...

....from my bedroom to the backyard.  Sometime last year I returned from the home center with a really nice solid mahogany door with double-paned glass windows. It came with out a finish, but I saved lots of money by doing that part myself.  The door was to be installed in my bedroom, and would provide access to my back deck.

As most home improvement projects take me longer (in some cases much, much much longer) than anticipated, I've Finally finished the door's stain and multiple urethane coats, installed the new door in the bedroom. I still need to replace the sheetrock on the inside, but I'm really enjoying the extra breeze at night and direct access to the back deck and garage for easy laundry duties.
